One island - a thousand gems...
Langevåg - a resource centre
The area around Langevåg in the south is one
of the oldest settlements in the district. This was
where the greenstone from Hespriholmen was
fashioned into tools and weapons before being
exported. This industry existed for more than
5 000 years, and is called Norway's oldest industry.
Since then, much wealth has been created by
various maritime activities such as fishing, shipping and aquaculture. Over the past decades, the
Eidesvik Group has been among the most
prominent employers of high-tech maritime skills.
The Espevær Group, engaged in the production
of salmon from smolt to the finished product,
has one of Norway's most modern salmon
processing plants in Langevåg.
